As the summer approaches, The American Red Cross prepares for a decline in donors. School buildings, where blood drives commonly take place, and vacations are the primary factors in creating the decline. Rodney Wilson, a spokesperson at the American Red Cross, says the nation’s need for blood donations is constant, “Each day, the Red Cross must collect nearly 13,000 blood donations for patients at about 2,500 hospitals nationwide. This need doesn’t stop for the season, weather, holiday, or a pandemic.”
June 14th was World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). This year’s theme “Give blood, give plasma, share life, share often” focuses on life-long transfusion support. According to The World Health Organization, it “highlights the importance of giving plasma regularly to create a safe and sustainable supply of blood and blood products.” World Blood Donor Day was created to thank blood donors, encourage people to donate, and strengthen and sustain national blood programs.
There is currently an immediate need for blood donors.
From now until June 30th, the American Red Cross is distributing a $10 e-gift card to a merchant of your choice when you make a blood donation. You will also be entered fora chance to win a backyard theater package.
If you are looking for ways to donate or get involved to run a local blood drive – contact the American Red Cross by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit their website at www.redcrossblood.org.
Downloading The Red Cross Blood Donor App is another way to find a place to donate and get notified of blood drives in your area. The app also records an individual’s donation history, blood type, and notifies donors of the results of their blood screening. You can also enable the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device to make an appointment or for more information.
In January 2023, DandeLions Digital was proud to partner with their client, Upper Providence Township in Montgomery County to help create their inaugural Battle of the Badges Blood Drive.
Battle of the Badges was a friendly competition that helped the Red Cross meet patient and hospital demands for blood. When donors arrived at the blood drive, they had the opportunity to cast a vote for the Upper Providence Township Police and Fire departments. The winning agency received bragging rights and a plaque.
We look forward to working with them again for another successful event. Contact Dandelions Digital today to learn more about the services we offer!
